Overview
Castle Leslie Estate is one of Ireland's most romantic and storied castle properties, set on a magnificent 1,000-acre estate on the shores of Glaslough Lake in County Monaghan, near the border of Northern Ireland. The estate has been in the Leslie family since the 1660s, and its history reads like a who's-who of cultural and political figures — from Winston Churchill (a cousin of the Leslie family) to W.B. Yeats, and more recently Sir Paul McCartney, who married Heather Mills here in 2002. The estate offers several accommodation options. The Castle itself provides the most atmospheric experience, with rooms furnished with original antiques, four-poster beds, and the kind of faded grandeur that only centuries of aristocratic living can create. The Lodge, a more contemporary option, offers comfortable rooms with modern amenities and views over the estate. For the ultimate retreat, a handful of lakeside cottages provide self-catering privacy. The estate's 1,000 acres provide a wealth of outdoor activities. The equestrian centre offers riding through ancient woodland and along the lakeshore, while the lake itself is available for fishing, boating, and swimming. Woodland walks, clay pigeon shooting, and falconry are also available. For relaxation, the Victorian Treatment Rooms offer spa therapies in a beautifully restored setting. Dining at Castle Leslie celebrates the finest Irish produce, with the Snaffles Restaurant serving seasonal menus that feature estate-reared beef, locally caught fish, and vegetables from the kitchen garden. The atmosphere is relaxed and convivial, reflecting the Leslie family's tradition of generous hospitality. Whether you're seeking a romantic escape, a family celebration, or simply a few days of peace in one of Ireland's most beautiful estates, Castle Leslie delivers an experience steeped in history, beauty, and warmth.
