Castle Gatehouse, Tower at Sudeley Castle, Castle

Content

  • Live like royalty in this Castle Gatehouse, a cottage heralding the entrance to historic Sudeley Castle. It is a dog-friendly* property that comfortably sleeps four guests in two en-suite bedrooms. The Gatehouse is split into two wings, accessed by separate doors. On one side is a two-poster bed master bedroom with an en-suite shower room. On the other side is the kitchen/diner, a living area and a second king-size bedroom with an en-suite shower room on the first floor.
    The space
Staying at the Castle Gatehouse is akin to booking your very own miniature castle at Sudeley. The house marks the entrance to the castle grounds and has been converted and restored and offers comfortable accommodation for up to four guests. The ancient and impressive structure is complemented with symmetrical gardens lined with iron railings and a stone courtyard in the centre.
The accommodation is arranged with bedroom one and its two-poster bed and en-suite shower room, occupying one wing of the Gatehouse. Across the courtyard another door leads into a well-equipped kitchen and stairs leading up to a beautifully furnished, cosy living area. The second bedroom is on the first floor of this wing along with an ensuite shower room.
Outside, guests can admire the pastoral views that line the driveway to the castle from two individually gated gardens– a mirror image of each other – neatly connected by a shared terrace in the middle with an outdoor dining table and chairs. There is private driveway parking for two cars and two dogs are welcome.
Situated just a short walk from the beautiful Cotswold town of Winchcombe, guests will be spoiled for choice when it comes to things to do and see and places to eat while staying at the Gatehouse! See ‘Local Amenities’ or the Winchcombe guidebook for more information.
Please note, as per the floor plan, the bedrooms have separate entrances across a courtyard and are not joined.

Will definitely come back. If you have young kids the sleeping arrangements require some compromise but we made it work. The interior could do with a touch up, it was looking a little tired but that’s me being picky. Great place to stay and free entry to the castle is well worth itBolthole RetreatsAugust 2024Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay at Castle Gatehouse. We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We have shared your feedback with the property manager who has taken these points on board, and these will be looked into.

Winchcombe town centre, supermarket & pubs all easy walking distance. Sudeley Castle fantastic and incredible history. Great location as close to many other beautiful Cotswold villages. Kitchen well equipped and we cooked a few times no issues.
Will5 years on AirbnbNone5February 2024Fantastic place to stay for family. Really great set up and wonderful that both our son and us could have separate space whilst still being a very family centric set up.
So cool to stay in a mini castle. With so many great things to do in the Cotswolds we will definitely be going back! So pleased to have found this!
Marg8 years on AirbnbNone5August 2023Great place to stay and experience something different and in touch with the area.
Well equipped, comfortable, quiet and generally a great and convenient location. Free admission to the castle was a bonus.
Charny8 years on AirbnbNone5June 2023Worth every penny and our expectations were exceeded.
Beautiful & quirky property, amazing views, super relaxing, and a really great location - we felt close enough to Winchcombe with all its amenities but far enough away that we had real peace and quiet, and lots of bird song!
The public path alongside the property was far enough away that we maintained a good level of privacy, without feeling completely cut off.
We all had a spectacular time, the castle and its gorgeous grounds are well worth a visit, and we honestly cannot fault the Gatehouse at all. Can’t recommend highly enough! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
EllenEugene, OregonNone5May 2023This was a beautiful place to stay! Such an experience to stay in a castle Gatehouse.
Karrie6 years on AirbnbNone4February 2023We really enjoyed our stay at the Gatehouse, absolutely stunning setting. We stayed in February so unfortunately the castle was closed but we walked the adjacent path daily. The Gatehouse was clean and had all the necessary gadgets in the kitchen. The beds are a bit firm which took several nights to get used to. The wifi code in the manual was wrong but figured it out in the end. Heating system a bit tricky in the ground floor bedroom. Several nice restaurants in the area and excellent jumping off point for exploring the Cotswolds.
Grace10 years on AirbnbNone5October 2022The Castle Gatehouse is an amazing place to stay in the beautiful town of Winchcome. The gatehouse is secluded but is in walking distance of shops, pubs, bakery etc.
Everything about the accommodation was absolutely perfect. I can’t wait to come back again!
Matt9 years on AirbnbNone5August 2022Fantastic stay. Everything as advertised - two floor main house with upstairs master bedroom and on the ground floor a separate bedroom with ensuite. Very quiet and peaceful, lovely private patio and great starting location for exploring the Cotswolds by car. 10 minute walk to the high street with pubs, cafes, shops and restaurants. The house was clean and tea/coffee/jams provided. Just a note - the Bolthole retreats handbook had the wrong lockbox code and wifi password, but thankfully they were correct on the airbnb app. All in all, a very memorable stay. Thanks!
