Farnley Tower Guesthouse is a prominent Victorian mansion with Restaurant and Bar onsite. Sited in an elevated position, provides stunning views over Durham Castle, Cathedral and surrounding Countryside. Oak beams, sandstone walls and cast-iron staircase are key features in the attic with 3 Double Deluxe en suite rooms named Castle View, Cathedral View and Avenue Room. Spectacular views of Durham in the Cathedral and Castle view rooms. Each room is equipped with 32-inch smart TV, Hairdryer, Kitchenette including microwave, mini fridge, complimentary water, tea/coffee making facilities, biscuits, plates, cutlery and en suite bathrooms providing towels and toiletries. Each bedroom has a Double bed, Desk, Mirror, Chair, Bedside Tables, Chest of Drawers, Freestanding Clothes Hanger and Central Heating. Maximum occupancy per room is 2.

The room was cosy and clean with beautiful views of the cathedral. Anna welcomed us and was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast service was 10/10. We had a meal in the restaurant below for one of our nights and this was 10/10 also. Just 15 min walk down hill into town . We got a taxi back up as it is a steep hill but this was only £5 so well worth it . All in all a very enjoyable stay and have also recommended to family who will be visiting in the future . | |||

Easy after hours check in. Excellent restaurant in the building for dinner. Nice cooked to order breakfast. It was a nice 15 minute walk to the cathedral and castle… I used All Trails to find the different paths there and back. Note it’s a very uphill walk back! | |||

No problems leaving luggage while we looked around the city after checking out. If there was any drawback it was the steep-ish hill up to the property from the city centre, but that’s inevitable in Durham where you are constantly climbing up or down if you want to explore properly. All in all, a very pleasant stay. | |||

The downside for us was the usability of the suite we stayed in at the top of the building. It was not possible to stand in the room we had, except in the roof apex.This made getting in and out of bed very difficult.I am 6 feet tall and my partner is 5’4’’ and we both had to bend double both to get into and out of bed! The en suite was very nice and clean and we could stand up in it! From what we saw the other rooms were not affected in this way and looked lovely. We would absolutely recommend staying here but be aware of the limitations of the suites in the roof! | |||

The manager was so helpful and kind, the views and surrounding area are beautiful and breakfast was of a very high quality. We will be returning next time we're in Durham. | |||
