2.5 miles from Aberfoyle, nestled in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Forest this 500 year old tower house with connections to Rob Roy has been fully renovated. It now offers comfortable accommodation with en suite bathrooms to each bedroom. With renewable biomass heating system Duchray Castle is the perfect cosy get away! Guests can enjoy the beautiful estate, sit with a good book by the fire or alternatively explore all there is to offer in the local area of Loch Lomond and Stirlingshire.
The space
The oldest part of Duchray castle dates from the 16th Century, when it is believed to have been built as a hunting lodge for the Kings of Scotland. Early title deeds imposed upon the Laird of Duchray the duty to provide 70-armed men at need. Set in 80 acres of parkland the location is secluded, rural and scenic but is within 30 miles of Stirling and Glasgow making it highly accessible. The Trossachs, a designated National Scenic Area, are renowned for their beautiful lochs, forests, hills and glens. Golden eagles, peregrine falcons and red deer coexist with roe deer, wildcats, foxes, badgers and red squirrels.
Other things to note
Please note that, as you see in the photo, there is a separate building, known as The West Wing which might be occupied during your stay by other guests or the owners. The Property is independent from the Castle but does share the courtyard, parking and grounds - there is plenty of space and no windows look directly onto the Castle and visa versa. It is also possible to take both properties as well as the Lodge which is about 300 meters down the drive.

Everything we needed. Responsive host. Highly recommend this special property.

It is large, well equipped, cozy, and most especially quiet and tranquil. If you are seeking an opportunity to stay in a remote area, while still within easy driving distance of the local small village, or to Scottish tourist destinations, larger towns, and its main cities, this is your place. Highly recommend.

Rooms are very spacious and cozy. Huge property in a unique location. Trips to close trails and pathways possible, but also not too far away from the Highlands and the cities (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling). We’ll come back!

The pictures don't do the space justice, it's absolutely beautiful! We had some car trouble and Amy offered to drive us into town for groceries and even helped out for the first two days of our arrival. They allowed us to check in early as we had two little ones that were tired from our flight.
The castle itself is extremely comfortable. Beds are clean and soft, fireplaces and endless wood to keep yourself warm. A fully stocked kitchen and we even got some eggs from the local chickens! Wifi is limited to certain rooms, but we actually really liked that as we could be all together offline for the week. They had a bunch of books, board games, and toys for kids.
The grounds are stunning as well. So many places to go for walks, a beautiful river to see, and even highland cows!
We want to come back and will definitely be recommending this place to all of our family and friends.
Simon6 years on AirbnbNone5October 2023Struggling for words to describe the memories and incredible time we had at the castle for my husbands 40th Birthday.
The castle was even better than we hoped and we made friends with the chickens as well as Hamish the highland cow it felt like home within minutes.
Amy was the best host I’ve ever had in AirBNB and genuinely had the best interest of her clients at heart
I can’t speak more highly of this incredible place and listing that made memories to last a lifetime
Karima11 years on AirbnbNone5September 2023We were a group of four adults and one toddler and we had an amazing stay at Duchray castle. Amy made it so easy from the get-go - she was really responsive and gave us lots of useful information to make sure checking in and settling in was easy. When we got there, we fell in love with it - it's very spacious inside and beautifully decorated, and we loved having the choice of three living rooms (all with fireplaces) to get cozy in! The grounds were stunning and our 2-year old loved running around and seeing the chickens. There are places to eat in Aberfoyle but the kitchen was well-equipped (and so comfortable) that we spent most of the time cooking. We would highly recommend - and we'll be coming back!
Katherine12 years on AirbnbNone5September 2023While castle Duchray is a sucluded forest setting perfect for hiking, foraging, and star gazing, you still have easy access to civilization 2 miles up the road in Aberfoyle. Logistics with Amy were a breeze, and Niki showed us where to find chantrelles . The 5 of us loved our time there, and would highly recommend!
Kevin6 years on AirbnbNone5August 2023Wonderful accommodation in a beautiful location. A very big thank you to Amy for helping us have a great holiday and especially for making adjustments to our booking in response to family circumstances
LynneHuntersville, North CarolinaNone5August 2022We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the castle! The grounds are so much fun to walk, run, discover. Our five kids enjoyed the river walk, game room, and massive DVD collection! The peaceful atmosphere of the castle and grounds were worth every penny. We cannot wait to return.
SamuelBuffalo, New YorkNone5August 2022Duchray Castle is the most spectacular property I’ve ever stayed. It is exceedingly rare to find a 500-year-old family seat that has been thoroughly modernized, but with tremendous respect for the historic fabric of the home. The decor is tasteful English country house. The location and gardens are beyond compare. The local village is picturesque. Amy and her husband have used the pandemic to make upgrades to the property that make it even more delightful. if you want tranquility, peace, beauty, and a historic setting that still allows a long soak in a beautiful bathroom at the end of a day in the Highlands, please consider staying here.
