The space
Enchanting Castle Retreat in a Private, Secluded Rural Setting:
Step into a world of historic charm at this imposing castle, featuring six double bedrooms—each with a solid wood four-poster bed, most with en-suite showers and washbasins. Just steps away in the Clock House, you’ll find two more double beds, plus a further single and pullout single beneath—ideal for extra guests or somewhere quieter away from the main house.
Inside, you’ll explore five communal rooms—including a large Lounge/Conservatory with views over the grounds, a Study, Drawing Room, Library, and the impressive Great Hall. The Dining Hall seats up to 20 guests around a grand table, perfect for medieval banquets, murder mystery weekends / Traitors themed weekends. Climb Rapunzel’s tower to find a private bedroom, stargaze in the central turret Observatory, and wander through tapestry-panelled hallways leading to the east and west wings. A ground-floor en-suite bedroom is a great option for those needing easier access.
Outside, two acres of landscaped and natural gardens teem with wildlife providing the perfect place for quiet contemplation or for children to roam free and get back to nature. You’ll also find a Game Keeper’s Cottage turned Games Barn, a Summer House, a Victorian Potting Shed, an orchard, and a children’s play area. A big commercial BBQ and benches just next to the conservatory provide the perfect spot for al fresco dining.
Despite its age, the castle comes with all the modern conveniences: a dishwasher, washing machine, commercial-size fridge, and a big range-style oven, kept toasty and warm in the coldest of winters by a big boiler. Crisp, hotel-quality linens and towels are laundered by a professional supplier, promising a comfortable stay and a great nights sleep.
We don’t like to brag—so please do read our reviews and discover how this Castle has made so many lasting memories and why this castle is the perfect venue for your unforgettable getaway. Book now and let the adventure begin!
Guest access
You have the whole place and the grounds entirely to yourself.
Other things to note
BEDDING / TOWELS / SOAP
We provide full set of bed linen for 8 double beds. Each bed has a pillow, pillow slip, a quilt, a sheet, a quilt cover and 2 big bath towels. Each toilet has a hand towel. Each shower has a rubber bath mat. We also supply hand soap for all the sinks and basins. Sorry we cannot provide extra linen or towels for the pullout bed in the Clock House.
We don't supply wash cloths or tea towels in the kitchen. The reason being that it encourages people to hand wash rather than use the dishwasher. There are different 'standards' of hand washing, so we prefer guests to use the dishwasher (we supply dishwasher tablets) because a dishwasher has only one standard - top standard, eg everything is squeaky clean.
The Castle is effectively a gate house. It is a folly and was not built as a fortification. As such it is not a huge Castle as one might imagine. Turrets on the whole are unusable and are for decoration.
IMPORTANT –
You cannot Check-in on a Saturday or Sunday.
You cannot Checkout on a Saturday.
E.g. you have to do a full weekend Friday to Sunday
Some bedrooms are quite small as they were not originally built as bedrooms encompassing showers and sinks. To save room, showers and sinks are open plan to the bedrooms, some squeezed into corners and cleverly hidden by paneling. Some beds have access only from one side. Rapunzel's Tower bedroom is some distance from the WC.
The chairs in the Dining Hall are very heavy, they are very old solid rosewood. Lighter chairs can be taken from the bedrooms if required but must be put back.
The Clock house which is the separate building has a modern interior despite it's ye-olde exterior, it in no way reflects the character or quality of the Castle. It is clean, comfortable and functional and is purely used as overflow accommodation where necessary. That is why it is free to hire. Please don't be disappointed with this building, it is meant for just getting your head down, the actual castle is where all the fun and activity is.
The Clock House has two double bedrooms, one with an extra single bed in it plus a further pullout bed underneath. This is separated by a wardrobe. The single bed is made up with linen but the pullout bed is not, so a sleeping bag or linen needs to be brought for that. The bathroom is accessed via the main bedroom.
The Castle is situated alongside a main road. It is mostly hidden behind tall trees, hedging, high banking and high fencing to reduce noise. It is almost impossible to see the Castle from the road making it difficult to find so just look out for the big wheelie bin on the road.
We say all this at the risk of putting you off but we do not want guests to believe they will be entering a vast, sprawling castle, it is very homely and we love it dearly! The Castle is a wonderful place and full of character.

Aidan9 years on AirbnbNone5February 2025From the moment we booked, to entering through the gates, it was a fantastic stay. The hosts are contactable and are full of information and top tips to help with the stay so that every goes smoothly. The accommodation itself is spectacular and you do feel like royalty while there! It's great for a group of family or friends and has plenty of spaces to do different activities and come together. The surroundings are lovely as well. I would recommend that anyone thinking of booking here goes ahead, you won't regret it!HaroldFebruary 2025Thank you for your lovely review! JackieBude, United KingdomNone5February 2025Connor and Harold are great hosts - very responsive, friendly and lots of good information before and during our stay.
We had a lovely stay celebrating birthdays with family and friends. The space is convenient for a large party with several areas where small or large groups can hang out.
The quirkiness of the castle will stay in our memories for a long time!
Thank you 🙂

James10 years on AirbnbNone5February 2025We had the most amazing time. Thank you. We are a group of friends of mixed sexual orientation. So dressing up as medieval castle characters was a hoot! We loved the bedrooms, the Quiryness of it. The drama and had our own glowsticks the festival. A wonderful stayHaroldFebruary 2025Thank you for your lovely review. Chuffed to hear that you and your friends had such an amazing time at the castle. It sounds like you truly embraced the medieval spirit dressing up as castle characters and even throwing in the glowsticks. It's a magical place isn't it. We look forward to welcoming you all back sometime for another memorable stay!

Stephen7 years on AirbnbNone5February 2025The castle lived up to all our expectations. Opened the door to hear medieval music playing and confronted by a full suit of armour. Huge dining table to seat twenty guests. Spiral staircases in bare stone walled towers to reach the bedrooms which were warm and clean and all with four poster beds. Very atmospheric. It would not be suitable for people with access difficulties although there was a bedroom on the ground floor and more bedrooms in the adjacent Clock House if the spiral staircase is too challenging. We went with lots of young children who were so excited to be sleeping in a castle. Having unbreakable crockery was a really good thing for our group! If you are looking for all mod cons and luxury this is not for you but it was perfect for us and Connor was very helpful and attentive in his prompt e-mail response to queries.HaroldFebruary 2025Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We're thrilled to hear that the castle lived up to your expectations and that the atmosphere made your stay so special. It sounds like the children had a magical time, there’s nothing quite like the excitement of sleeping in a real castle! We appreciate your notes on accessibility and amenities, and we're glad the unbreakable crockery came in handy for your group. It was a pleasure hosting you all, and we’d love to welcome you back for another memorable stay!
Daisy-Bleu2 years on AirbnbNone5January 2025Absolutely fantastic accommodation. So much to love about it.! We all had a brilliant stay and cannot wait to come back!
Jodi3 years on AirbnbNone5January 2025I booked the castle for my partners 30th birthday as a surprise with his friends for a lords and ladies party (he was the king) and we all had an amazing time! What a beautiful (and slightly creepy, but fun) place!
The castle is surrounded by pretty gardens that made me wish it wasn't January, and inside is lovely because it is decorated in keeping with the age of the building rather than all stripped back and modern!
With it being a very old castle, there are some things that are to be expected, like creaking floors, low doorways, and the odd spider. The rest is all to a very high standard with comfortable beds, hot heating and showers, clean linens and towels, and clean porcelain and worktops.
The hosts have been very quick to reply and so accommodating, allowing us to set up a drumkit and all jam some music together. (no neighbours for 2 miles around!) which really made the celebration great!
we would 100% book the castle again!
HaroldJanuary 2025Thank you so much for your wonderful review! Very pleased to hear that your partner’s 30th birthday celebration was such a success and that the castle set the perfect scene for your Lords and Ladies party, a perfect idea! Great when all that planning comes off.Glad to hear the character and history of the place (creaky floors and all!) added to it and that you found everything comfortable. Glad they got to have that full-on jam session, one of the perks of having no neighbours for miles! We’d be delighted to welcome you all back, maybe in the warmer months so you can fully enjoy the gardens. Until then, thank you again for choosing our castle for such a special occasion!
