Upon arrival there was a power outage however this was swiftly dealt with by Scottish Power who installed a generator which ran faultlessly through the night until mains power was restored.
Sandy and Katarina were both very helpful and made us welcome with nothing being too much trouble.
We loved our stay at Neidpath and hope to return at some point soon.
10/10ExcellentKerry C.14 Feb 2025NoneNoneUnforgettableLike most we have a budget when traveling. Yet still I like the occasional splurge on really good accommodation. So when planning our trip to Scotland I did look at the high end hotels in Edinburgh and they were nice. But then I found Neidpath. An authentic (not Disney) castle beautifully decorated we could have all to ourselves. Such a unique experience. I doubt you’ll find anywhere else. A lovely self catered breakfast provided for the next morning and the lovely neighbouring town of Peebles to explore as well. If you have any interest at all in history you need to book this now.

Very comfortable bed & we slept quite well. The ghost didn’t bother us. We’ve stayed at castle before so I guess the ghost remembered us.
10/10Excellent5 Dec 2024NoneNoneA magical stay for our weddingAbsolutely adored staying here - we were a little worried at first with it being so old that we might have to make some accommodations but it was really exceptionally comfortable cosy and warm. Loved every minute and it made our wedding morning extra special to wake up and sit by the fire in the sitting room. We will be back!

Our rooms were cosy with a big log fire just ready to light.
We were free to explore all over the castle which was amazing. How often would you be free to roam your own castle? Many stairs!!
We opted to be served dinner by the local caterers Tweedvalley Venison. We had a stunning meal ( huge portions) served at a table in our suite. There is a tiny kitchen in the rooms where breakfast was provided and teas and coffees. We could also have used the catering kitchen.
Altogether a wonderful experience which we will always remember.

The Queen's Chamber Lounge Area and Kitchen had everything we could possibly want or need.
The lady welcomed us with much knowledge of the history which we loved and were in awe of.
The location and surrounds were very pretty and peaceful.
A tranquil oasis the highlight of our Scottish Holiday.
10/10Excellent26 Oct 2024NoneNoneWonderful to be back at NeidpathWe stayed at Neidpath for our wedding anniversary and it was so lovely to be back. We had a lot of issues during our journey which meant we arrived much later than planned and Katarina was very understanding.

We would wholeheartedly recommend staying at Neidpath for a unique experience - you have the castle to yourselves with the most beautiful surroundings. We hope to be back again!
10/10ExcellentJohn F.11 Oct 2024NoneNoneWell wort. While we were planning our first visit to Scotland I discovered the website for Neidpath. Honestly I had some reluctance to commit to a day and evening away from Edinburgh (we were only in the country seven days). But in many ways our stay at Neidpath turned out to be the high point of our entire trip.

Following an easy one hour trip down from Edinburgh (You can drive or take a taxi of course. But we took a bus from New Town. The service is easy to navigate runs often and gives you an opportunity to enjoy the countryside as you travel) we stopped in Peebles for lunch and then hiked along the Tweed River to the castle. (I don’t recommend this for everyone. The hike is quite pleasant. However the castle rests on a steep hill above the river so the last bit took some effort. You can instead choose an easy walk from town along paved streets with little change in elevation).

We were greeted warmly at the door by Katarina a member of the staff and given a brief tour. Without overwhelming us she managed to touch on major time periods in Neidpath’s history and its evolution over the centuries. (I urge you to read up on the castle’s history beforehand. It’s fascinating!). She also let us know critical details for our enjoyment during our stay and upon giving us the key wished us a good night.

Then we were on our own…

We explored the several floors. Some like the Queen Mary suite are furnished to be both comfortable snd evoke a certain period of Neidpath’s history. Others particularly the very upper floors are in a rougher state. Either way every inch of the place is a fascinating look into the past and shouldn’t be missed by anyone with an interest in history. We took many photos and had a wonderful time.

Later that evening we broke out the provisions we brought with us for dinner: some nice cheeses fruit a baguette and bottle of wine. A pretty intense rain storm came along We lit the fire in the main sitting room. It was a good night to be safe and warm by the fire in your own castle in the Scottish countryside…

The next morning we awoke enjoyed views of the foggy river and surrounding hills and had some of the breakfast left for us by Katarina the day before. As we were closing the castle door behind us we happened to run into Ms. Benson. Our host’s charm humor and friendliness (even offering us a lift into town) was a nice send-off before starting our journey back to Edinburgh.

Honestly this was a wonderful time. If ever an opportunity to visit again comes our way we will do so. We left wanting more time to enjoy the castle the surrounding countryside and the nearby town of Peebles.
10/10Excellent5 Oct 2024NoneNoneWonderfulWe enjoyed our stay immensely! It was so nice to be able to wander around the castle at our own pace exploring. Katarina who checked us in gave us a very informative history of the castle and made sure we were all settled in. We only wish we had been able to partake in the dinner being made by a private chef but he was on holiday maybe next time!
8/10Good29 Sept 2024NoneNoneA real adventureAn unforgettable experience to have a whole castle for yourself. We felt like children exploring the castle. The breakfast that was in store for us the next morning was absolutely lovely: Berries fruit muesli yoghurt salmon avocado orange juice a wonderful bread... Everything we would have wished for!
