The space
Revealing a fascinating glimpse into its ancient stables heritage, Coachman Lodge sits at the heart of the courtyard within a rural idyll, binding a classically Grade-II listed exterior with luxurious rustic interiors. Showcasing the essence of the building and the setting in which it is ensconced, the lodge features original wood paneled walls and chimneys, and is now upgraded with 2 full bathrooms.
The living room boasts original features from the turn of the century, including original oak paneling, and lovely fireplace. Streaming light from the window and door glass panels also provide view of the woodlands, framed by abundant hydrangeas blooms. Indian-blue velvet sofas with gold accents and a highly curated selection of fine arts provide a true boutique feel to the lodge. The brand new kitchen has been restored from its original form, and you'll find fascinating nooks and crannies for storage within the original range which has stood in its place since the 1900s. The window at the sink provides glimpses into the "pleasure ground", an area at Dunskey that's dedicated to our botanical walled garden, the vegetable garden, and the maze.
The historic cobblestone courtyard at Coachman Lodge is one of its most charming features. Painted drawers and outdoor vanity full of plants and whimsical touches will encourage you to linger in this enclosed outdoor space. We have restored the stables mahogany dividers to create your own private space for reading and lounging in the sun. Just a few steps away is the lovely and utterly private walled garden, all yours to peruse.
Upstairs, the master bedroom showcases a handpainted mural that's guaranteed to get hearts swooning. Super king bed, eclectic artworks, and mid-century- inspired furnishings ensure a hotel-like stay. The brand new full bathroom provides a large walk-in shower and a full bath, and of course, always stocked with Dunskey's own bath amenities. The second bedroom boasts an impressive wardrobe that will rival one of Marie Antoinette. Indeed, antique crowns and crests over the two single beds will delight anyone who's ever entertained the fantasy of living like lords and ladies on their own private Estate.
Guest access
You're not simply staying in a Castle Estate: you are staying on one of the most beautiful spots on the planet. Dunskey Estate boasts two waterfalls, two lochs, and three beaches, with the most magnificent walks along the craggy Scottish coastline. This pleasure ground will be completely yours to explored, including a private woodland garden and a maze. You will have the time of your life, I promise.
Two lochs nestle into the hills and rhododendron banks. Wander along the glen walk past a rushing waterfall, and a babbling brook, to the two beaches to spot dolphins and seals. Dunskey Golf Course and the picturesque Portpatrick Harbour is two minutes away. Fishing expeditions from the beaches or on our two lochs are available.
Portpatrick Village has a public tennis court, putting green, golf course, beaches, and many restaurants. It is a very family-friendly destination.

FOR CANCELLATIONS:
Full refund for cancellations made within 48 hours of booking, if the check-in date is at least 14 days away.
25% refund for cancellations made at least 21 days before check-in.
No refunds for cancellations made within 21 days of check-in.
FOR BOOKING MODIFICATIONS:
A one-time complimentary change of date can be made if the check-in date is more than 90 days away. The cost of the nightly rate will remain the same as the original booking OR the cost of the nightly rate for the newly requested dates or newly requested property, whichever is higher.
If the check-in date is less than 90 days away, a 170gbp fee is applied to the modification request. The cost of the nightly rate will remain the same as the original booking OR the cost of the nightly rate for the newly requested dates or newly requested property, whichever is higher.
We are unable to accommodate any change of date or change of property if the check-in date is less than 21 days away.
We carry out a deep cleaning process for allergen removal for every booking with pets. The cost is 60gbp / stay for up to two pets. This is added to your guest bill that is sent to you upon departure.

There are many beautiful hikes - we spent a whole day hiking down to the beaches and then all around the cliffs - and spectacular gardens and plants everywhere, from the walled garden on the grounds to the magnificent Logan Botanic Garden.
The lodging was nearly perfect. We really appreciated the snacks and food they left for us and the all-important tea and coffee. The kitchen was very well supplied, down to the sharp knives - I don’t know about you, but self-catering places tend to have the worst knives. Not here! The bathrooms were luxurious, the couches in the parlor comfy. When it wasn’t raining we were happily out exploring, and when it was raining we were happily lounging and reading. We would absolutely stay longer!

The estate is breathtaking and I’m sure we managed to miss most of it. Proveate beach sunsets with seals, the kids caught fish on the loch. A fantastic family holiday. Made easier and more enjoyable by the fantastic food and all of the lovely staff ,other members of the team and the animals.

On our very first morning we had a Doe come rambling past our kitchen window, a beautiful portent of the many wonderful things that we were to experience during our eight day stay in the marvellous Dunskey Estate. We stayed in the Coachmans Heritage Lodge, a beautifully converted original old stone cottage with all modern comforts. It’s also a great base to explore what this part of rural Scotland has to offer, including the Robbie Burns museum, a leisurely drive along the coast into Ayr. Dunskey is good for the soul, don’t miss it!

The whole cottage was very tastefully done throughout.
We loved the walled garden and taking the boat out on the loch.

The Estate is beautiful, the location off the coast exquisite and the staff friendly, helpful and relaxed. I cannot recommend this property and overall holiday experience enough. We can’t wait to rebook and come back.
Shane10 years on AirbnbNone5October 2021Overall it was excellent! If you like hiking and walks it’s a perfect secluded cottage which was great for us as a family with a dog. The wood burning stove just added to the ambiance and relaxation. The secluded beach area in the grounds was wonderful (about a 40min amble from the property).
If staying in the area the lighthouse at the mull of Galloway was great (approx 50 min drive). There isn’t many options for food in the area but the old colfin creamery was the standout - really good bistro style food. Port pantry is good for fried breakfast type things. Connors in port Patrick was good as well if you like massive portions for sides.
