The space
The Garden Apartment is a modest space accessed via the small courtyard. The apartment has a kitchen/living room, two twin bedrooms, one with ensuite and a further bathroom. It has its own garden area and a shared utility room.
Guest access
The majority of the gardens are available to visitors, with the front of the castle being reserved for the owners. There is also half a mile of fishing for guests to use, although they will be required to bring their own fishing tackle.
Other things to note
DIRECTIONS Located a few miles from Bridge of Cally on the A924, arriving guests should look out for a set of stone gate pillars with sleeping dogs on top and a gatehouse that signals the Blackcraig Castle entrance road. Following this they should proceed down the tree-lined driveway and over one of the few remaining Bridge Houses in Scotland. Access to the Apartments is the SECOND turn on the left after crossing the bridge house.

We particularly liked the circular, stone flagged entrance hall and the comfy beds (singles, in two twin rooms). We met our lovely hosts, who encouraged us to look around the grounds and at the walled garden that they have been renovating. The property is set in quiet woodland in beautiful countryside and is truly stunning. | |||

The apartment was well laid out with an entry hall great for muddy boots and coats. The living/kitchen area was well furnished with large doors leading to a yard/patio. Great for morning coffee and outdoor dining. As described the two bedrooms and bathrooms are small. But very workable. The kitchen was well stocked. And it was a very comfortable place to be. When you do come down the drive at first it may appear that you're coming into a maintenance area. But as soon as you walk through the brown wooden door into the outer courtyard, you feel like you are in a castle. This is not one of those glitzy castles but a real castle. We did buy bottled water because the water had a strange taste. But John did say it was tested and safe to drink. We met John the first night and he was friendly and welcoming. Plus great info on walks and the area in their information book in the apartment. |
