The West Wing of Lickleyhead Castle can comfortably sleep ten adults (there is room for two extra children). The west wing of the castle is self-contained and you will not share any spaces with other groups. There are six unique bedrooms. Guests have exclusive access to the great hall, the chapel, the music room, the castle's main kitchen and games room as well as the courtyard. Please note that the west wing does not have a formal dining room. West wing guests eat at the kitchen table.
The space
Lickleyhead Castle is a Grade A listed fairy tale beauty built in an architectural style unique to the North East of Scotland. The West Wing is warm, with central heating and an open fire as well as numerous electric heaters. The interior has been refurbished to a high standard sympathetic to the building's past.
The six bedrooms of the West Wing are styled for different periods in the castle's history and are all spacious. Each is named for a famous family or individual who lived at the castle in it's 500 years. 3 bedrooms have en suites, the remaining three are very close to bathrooms.
Guest access
The castle courtyard is reserved for the West Wing and guests can use a large barbeque provided in this space as well as outdoor tables and chairs. The 11 acre grounds are free to explore and for guests to play on. There is a trampoline for children and a firepit to gather around and toast marshmallows!
Other things to note
Weddings
We are now hosting wedding ceremonies for up to 30 people at the castle. Please let us know if this is of interest. Please note that the whole castle must be booked for weddings and that prices on Airbnb are for holiday rentals. Contact us for a quote regarding weddings.
Limitations
The West Wing of Lickleyhead Castle is not suitable for adult parties such as hen or stag parties. You can instead book the entire castle for this purpose. Please see Airbnb listing 'Historic Fairytale Lickleyhead Castle' at the same location.
Catering
We do not recommend having caterers in the west wing. Please book the whole castle if you wish to have catering. West wing guests will eat at the kitchen table.

The property has a lovely short walking trail that goes to the front gate passing a stream and pasture land. From the castle you can only the babbling brook and the lambs bleating in the field. Very peaceful. There is a cottage on the grounds where the landlord’s family lives but they were very quiet. The castle itself is typical of the area with stone. The wing we stayed in was more like a tower with every room is on the different floor - the kitchen is on the ground floor, they living room area on the 2nd, one bedroom on the third, another on the 4th floor etc. We enjoyed the different floors with the spiral staircase but is important to note if someone had mobility issues. The decor of the castle is generally nice (but some tag sale items could be removed). The kitchen and the Ava stove were a huge hit. Everything was beautiful and thoughtfully appointed for guests’ comfort. The cast iron bathtub was perfect for baths, the beds were amazingly comfortable, and the kitchen and dining room had everything for amazing dinners; even picnic baskets, which we used for day outings! Absolutely stay here if you have the opportunity. It was wonderful! | |||

There are so many bedrooms and bathrooms that there is room for everyone. We loved the decor in the whole place, and the kitchen was well-stocked with all the dishes/cooking equipment you may need. The grounds are gorgeous, and my kids had such a great time exploring (as did we!). There is a really nice atmosphere here, and we enjoyed ourselves a lot. It was so fun to live in a castle for a few days! |
