Grade I listed, the house has been owned by the same family for 150 years and has a long and fascinating history. An addition to the original building was made in the 16th century and the first restoration was made in 1861, after it was bought by the merchant and philanthropist George Moore.
Whitehall Pele Tower has all the benefits of modern living, whilst retaining its original character. The house stands in an acre of grounds containing the picturesque ruins of a Victorian manor house. Two of the larger lawns can be used for family games. Inside the house are spacious rooms, including a first floor sitting room with Chrome cast, giving the ability to stream from your device to the TV, and an enormous Tudor stone fireplace, looking out over tranquil pastureland. As per some of the previous reviews, the furniture is very tired and, being an old house, the decor is very dated. The thing that spoiled our trip however was that one of the double bedrooms on the 1st floor had an extremely strong smell of urine.. So much so that we had to shut the room off and not use it. Luckily our party did not need this room but if it had been, we would have been requesting new accommodation as it was not habitable. The location was at least 30 mins out of the Lake District and for us, this was a negative but for others this might be a plus. All in all, if your looking to stay somewhere with a bit of history, this might tick your box but if your looking for a bit of luxury look elsewhere. | |||

What a treat it was to stay in such a location. The tower was really well equipped with everything we could want. It was really exciting for the kids to explore the space, the toys and dressing up chest was very loved! The only downsides of the property are that it is quite cold in the mornings when up early with the children and the showers are quite weak.
