Overview
Inverlochy Castle Hotel is widely regarded as one of the finest luxury hotels in Scotland, a five-star Relais & Châteaux property set beneath the towering majesty of Ben Nevis in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. When Queen Victoria stayed here in 1873, she wrote in her diary: "I never saw a lovelier or more romantic spot." That assessment remains just as accurate today, and guests at Inverlochy enjoy an experience that is the very essence of Highland luxury. The castle was built in 1863 as a private residence and has operated as a hotel since 1969, though it feels more like staying in an impossibly grand private house. The 17 rooms and suites are decorated in classic country house style, with fine antiques, rich fabrics, and views over the castle's private loch or the surrounding mountains. The attention to detail is extraordinary — fresh flowers in every room, hand-pressed linen, and the kind of thoughtful personal service that has made Inverlochy legendary among discerning travellers. The hotel's dining room is one of the finest restaurants in the Highlands, holding three AA Rosettes and serving cuisine that showcases the extraordinary natural larder of the Scottish West Highlands. Think hand-dived Loch Linnhe scallops, Highland venison, wild mushrooms, and herbs from the castle's own garden, all prepared with technical skill and presented with elegance. The wine cellar is extensive and knowledgeable staff guide guests through perfect pairings. Inverlochy's location at the foot of Ben Nevis and at the southern end of the Great Glen provides access to some of Scotland's most dramatic landscapes. Whether climbing Britain's highest peak, taking the Jacobite Steam Train over the Glenfinnan Viaduct (famous from Harry Potter), or simply enjoying the castle's loch and garden, Inverlochy Castle Hotel delivers an experience that lingers in the memory long after you leave.

Castle History
Inverlochy Castle Hotel occupies a Victorian mansion built in 1863 by Lord Abinger, near the ruins of the 13th-century Old Inverlochy Castle. Queen Victoria visited in 1873 and famously praised its beauty. The castle was requisitioned during World War II before being converted into a hotel in 1969. It joined the Relais & Châteaux collection and has consistently been rated among Scotland's finest hotels. A major refurbishment in 2020 refreshed the property while preserving its timeless character.
