Overview
Scone Palace occupies a place in Scottish history that few buildings can rival. It was here, on the Moot Hill, that Scottish kings were crowned for centuries, seated upon the Stone of Destiny. The present palace, a magnificent Gothic edifice dating from the early 19th century, incorporates elements of far older buildings on this sacred site and is home to the Earls of Mansfield, whose family has lived here since 1604. The palace offers exclusive-use accommodation for groups of up to 30 guests, providing an opportunity to experience life in one of Scotland's grandest houses. The 14 bedrooms are spread across the principal floors, each furnished with period antiques and offering views over the 100 acres of grounds. The Long Gallery, State Dining Room, and Drawing Room are available for entertaining, and the palace's world-famous collections — including rare porcelain, needlework attributed to Mary, Queen of Scots, and one of the finest collections of French furniture outside France — are displayed throughout. Exclusive-use guests have the run of the palace and its grounds, which include a famous pinetum (collection of conifer trees from around the world), a maze, and extensive gardens. The events team can arrange everything from whisky tastings and Highland Games to private tours with the palace curator, ensuring a bespoke and unforgettable experience. The palace's setting in Perthshire — often called the "gateway to the Highlands" — provides easy access to both the cultural attractions of Perth and the natural grandeur of Highland Perthshire. Whether your party is interested in golf, fishing, whisky, walking, or simply soaking in Scotland's history and landscapes, Scone Palace provides a base that is quite literally fit for royalty.

Castle History
Scone has been a site of importance since Pictish times. Scottish kings were crowned here from the 9th century, and the Stone of Destiny (Stone of Scone) resided here until Edward I removed it to Westminster Abbey in 1296. The present palace was built in 1803-12 for the 3rd Earl of Mansfield, incorporating the 16th-century palace and medieval abbey remains. It remains the home of the Earls of Mansfield and is one of Scotland's most visited historic houses.
